Troubleshooting

What to try when something is not working.

"Some Homeys are offline"

This message comes from Athom's cloud, not from HDashboards. It means the Homey cloud is reporting your Homey as unreachable, and HDashboards is relaying that.

Things to try, in order:

  1. Check the Homey app — if it also cannot reach your Homey, the problem is not HDashboards.
  2. Check your Homey has power and its light is normal.
  3. Restart the Homey.
  4. Restart your router if the Homey cannot get online.

If it keeps happening while the Homey is clearly online, it is worth contacting Homey support, since the offline report originates with them.

The app is stuck on "Connecting"

  • Confirm the device has a working internet connection.
  • Force-close the app and reopen it.
  • Sign out and back in.
  • If only one of several Homeys is stuck, that Homey is the problem, not the app.

A card says "not found"

The device behind it no longer exists, or its Homey is disconnected. Edit the card and pick the device again. If the device was removed from Homey deliberately, delete the card.

A card shows no value

  • The device may not be reporting yet — battery devices often report only when something changes.
  • If you set a Label (capability), check that capability actually exists on the device.
  • Check the value appears in the Homey app. If it does not, the problem is upstream.

Tapping a card does nothing

Work through these:

  1. Are you in edit mode? Cards do not act in edit mode. Leave it with the checkmark.
  2. Is the card locked? A padlock means it wants a PIN.
  3. Is on-tap behaviour set to None? Check the Advanced tab.
  4. Is the device controllable? A sensor has nothing to switch.
  5. Do you have permission? A restricted account cannot open dashboards it was not given.

A dashboard is slow or the tablet gets hot

Almost always Video or Webview cards — both run continuously.

  • Reduce how many are on one dashboard.
  • Use a camera's sub-stream rather than its full-resolution stream.
  • Replace a live stream with a refreshing Image card where you only glance at it.
  • Increase refresh intervals on polling cards.

The wall panel goes to sleep

  • Turn on Screen always on in Settings.
  • On Android, allow HDashboards to ignore battery optimisation — without it the system will suspend the app regardless.
  • Keep the device on power.

I hid the top bar and cannot get it back

Seven quick taps on the screen. See Kiosk mode.

My calendar card is empty

  • Paste the ICS link into a browser. You should get a file download. A login page means you copied the wrong address.
  • ICS files are refreshed by the calendar provider on their own schedule, so a newly added event can take a while to appear.
  • Check the calendar actually has events in the period the card is showing.

A webview shows a blank card

Many sites refuse to be embedded — browsers honour a header that forbids it, and there is nothing HDashboards can do about that. Try the URL in a normal browser frame first. Pages on your own network usually work best.

An RTSP stream will not play

  • Test the URL in VLC. If VLC cannot open it, the card will not either.
  • Check the username and password in the URL.
  • Try the camera's sub-stream instead of the main stream.
  • Video support differs by platform; a stream that plays on Android may not play on the web edition.

My layout looks wrong on a different device

Layouts are stored per screen size. Open the dashboard on that device and arrange it there — it will not disturb your other layouts. See Edit mode.
