Let Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant build and change your dashboards.
On this page
You can design your dashboards by chatting with an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT. Tell it what you want — "a kitchen dashboard with the lights, the weather and our calendar" — and it looks up your Homey devices, proposes the cards and puts them on the grid for you. You can keep refining it in plain words: "make the lamps smaller", "add a title above the living room", "move the thermostat to the top".
Before you start
- You need an HDashboards licence or a running trial.
- Update the HDashboards app on your screens to the latest version. Screens then pick up the assistant's changes within a minute, without reopening the dashboard.
- With the Homey companion app installed, changes show up right away instead.
Connect Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it HDashboards and enter the URL
https://hdashboards.app/mcp. - Click Connect. A HDashboards window opens: sign in if you are not signed in yet.
- Read what the assistant will be allowed to do and click Allow.
The connector is then available in your Claude chats on the web, the desktop app and the mobile app.
Using Claude Code? Add it with:
claude mcp add --transport http hdashboards https://hdashboards.app/mcp
Connect ChatGPT or another assistant
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers ("connectors") with OAuth sign-in works. In ChatGPT, add a custom connector in the settings; depending on your plan this may require turning on developer mode. Use the URL https://hdashboards.app/mcp, then sign in and click Allow as above.
What to ask
Start with what the dashboard is for and which screen it goes on. For example:
- "Make a dashboard for the tablet in the hallway: the front door lock, the alarm, the weather and a clock."
- "Add every light in the living room to my Home dashboard, grouped under a title."
- "On the kitchen dashboard, put the energy meter in a gauge from 0 to 5000 watts with green, orange and red ranges."
- "Arrange the Bedroom dashboard for my phone."
- "Delete the old Test dashboard."
- "Who in my household can see the Kitchen dashboard? Let Sam use it too."
A good assistant proposes the cards and the layout first and waits for your go-ahead before it changes anything.
What it can and cannot do
The assistant works as you, with your permissions:
- The account owner's assistant can see and change all of the household's dashboards and create new ones.
- A household member's assistant only sees the dashboards shared with them, and only changes the ones they may edit. See Users and permissions.
It can add, change, arrange and remove device, thermostat, speaker, flow, flow token, dashboard, multicard, weather, forecast, clock, title, timeline, image, calendar, gauge and battery cards. Other cards, such as insight graphs, video streams, web views and syslog, it can move or remove but not change.
It can also move whole dashboards to the Trash bin and bring them back within 14 days. It asks before deleting one.
The account owner's assistant can answer questions about the household — who is in it and what each person may do on each dashboard — and share or unshare your dashboards with existing members (View, Use and Edit, as in Users and permissions). It cannot add or remove people, change passwords or settings access, or give someone Share, because that hands out a link that signs them in. Do those in the app.
It cannot switch devices, start flows or change anything in your Homey. It never sees or sets PIN codes; set those in the app.
Undo and the trash
Ask the assistant to undo its last change and the dashboard goes back to how it was. You can go back up to 25 changes. Cards and dashboards it removes also go to the Trash bin, where you can restore them yourself for 14 days.
Your privacy
To design your dashboards, the assistant reads the names of your dashboards, cards, devices, rooms, flows and flow tokens, and for the account owner the names and e-mail addresses of household members. That information is sent to the company behind the assistant you connect, under their privacy terms. HDashboards itself does not use AI and sends nothing anywhere until you connect an assistant.
Disconnect an assistant
The account owner sees every connected assistant on the account page of hdashboards.app, under AI assistants. Click Disconnect and its access stops right away. You can also remove the connector in the assistant itself.
Troubleshooting
- "Your HDashboards licence has ended." Renew under billing on hdashboards.app.
- The assistant cannot reach your Homey. It then uses the device list the app saved the last time it ran, without flows and rooms. Open the HDashboards app once, or try again later.
- A screen does not show the change. Wait a minute, or use the refresh button on the dashboard. Make sure the app is up to date.
