Signing in and connecting Homey

Create an account, link your Homey, and understand how the local connection works.

On this page

HDashboards uses its own account, separate from your Homey login. The account holds your dashboards; your Homey holds your devices. You link the two once.

Create an account

Accounts are created on the website, not in the app. Go to hdashboards.app, sign up, then open the app and sign in with the same email and password.

If you already have an account and cannot remember the password, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen.

After signing in for the first time, HDashboards asks you to connect a Homey. You are sent to Athom's own login page to approve the connection — HDashboards never sees your Homey password.

You can connect more than one Homey. Devices from every connected Homey appear together when you add a card, each labelled with the Homey it belongs to.

The connecting screen

Each time the app starts it shows Connecting to Homey(s) while it establishes the link and downloads the current state of your devices.

If a Homey cannot be reached you will see Some Homeys are offline. That message comes from Athom's cloud, not from HDashboards: it means the Homey cloud is reporting your Homey as unreachable. Restarting the Homey usually clears it. If it keeps happening, it is worth contacting Homey support, because HDashboards is only relaying what Athom reports.

Local versus cloud

Once connected, device updates flow directly between the app and your Homey over a websocket. On the same network that traffic stays local, which is why HDashboards feels immediate compared to a round trip through a cloud service.

What is stored in the HDashboards cloud is the design of your dashboards: which cards exist, where they sit, what colour they are, and the identifier of the device each one points at. Device names, readings and history are not uploaded.
